MPhil by Research Thesis (1 Year) for Overseas Students Only
An MPhil by research thesis (no taught courses) lasts for a year and involves doing an original piece of research.
Please follow the online Application process. The Application Guide is also online.
The application process refers to a "Summary details of research proposal or reason for applying for the course". You should briefly explain the focus of the research you will undertake. Bear in mind that this may be read by a potential sponsor (perhaps from the Gates foundation or similar) who is unlikely to be a specialist.
The "Statement of Interest" should be a short (c. 500 word statement) explaining the reasons for wishing to do this course and for studying the subject at this level. Mention any special interests and past experience which you consider relevant, and your plans for the future.
Please note you need to raise your own funding by applying for appropriate studentships, usually in your own country: £18,000 for fees and £11,000 for maintenance a year = £29,000.
Details of Gates, Commonwealth and other studentships can also be found on the Board of Graduate Studies website
