A series of quick guides for using the library

How do I ...?

... Merge two or more pdfs together. This is for Ubuntu only:

  1. Place the files you want to combine on the desktop- rename them with short names, e.g. 1.pdf 2.pdf3.pdf (as used in the example below)
  2. Open the terminal > Applications > Accessories > Terminal
  3. Change the directory to the desktop in the terminal >type: cd Desktop
  4. Hit enter/return -
  5. Type the following into the terminal:
  6. gs -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -sOUTPUTFILE=join.pdf -dBATCH 1.pdf 2.pdf 3.pdf.
  7. In the example above join.pdf is a random name I've chosen - you can change that to whatever you like, as long as it has the .pdf file extension
  8. Hit enter/return and wait until the screen displays Desktop again or a string of words explain that it's all gone terribly wrong
  9. If it has gone wrong (as it frequently does in my case) the error is most likely yours and you need to redo the whole thing, and be completely accurate
  10. Please note large files will take a very, very long time

... Map a network drive. For Ubuntu or Windows (coming soon)
