How do I ... ?

 ... Find an article

Q: Can I find an article on Newton?

A: No. Articles can't be found via Newton the University Libraries' catalogue – indexing stops at the journal level. If you know the title of the journal, then you can use Newton to find that journal and then the article.

The UL have laucnhed a new search engine called LibrarySearch which will search at article level using crossSearch but having tried it several times I'm not convinced it is worth using.

Q: Can I find an article on line?

A: Yes, sometimes, look on the Resources list of Earth Sciences Journals A-F  G-M and N-Z or the University Library's ejournals@cambridge

OR

A: The article you're looking for may be on the reading lists or resources for your course, these can be found here or on CamTools

Q: It's not on line and we don't have the journal, could it be anywhere else in the library?

A: Yes, we have the Part II & III reprint collection. Located behind the door of the Library Office over 1200 articles are available for short term borrowing. Mostly these are older articles for which we don't have on line access or copies of the journals. You can see a list of the collection contents here

Q: I still can't find it, is there any where else it could be?

A: It could be in the Central Science Library (CSL) on the New Museum Site or at the UL. The CSL has an electronic fetching form which you can fill in to request journals to be fetched from the stacks - very useful for older issues of journals. Search Newton to see if the journal is held at either of those locations
