The Department of Earth Sciences is once again top amongst UK geology departments in the latest tables.

The Department of Earth Sciences is once again placed first amongst UK geology departments in the latest table, just published by the Complete University Guide

The table, compiled by Mayfield University Consultants, ranks universities based on metrical quality factors that reflect both educational and research activity. In doing so, it uses data from a broad range of sources including the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA), the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, and the 2016 National Student Survey (NSS). More information on the methodology is available on the CUG website.

Professor Simon Redfern, Head of the Department, responded to the publication of the new league tables:

“Cambridge Earth Sciences' position, at the top of this table of UK departments, is a reflection of our activities across the board. In both teaching and research we have world-class impact, with our graduates going on to become leaders in their field. UK Earth Sciences remains internationally leading, and our place among it is a direct outcome of our commitment to attracting the best staff and students and to excellence in teaching and research."
