Energy and Environment

Mug design competition!

Now’s your chance to make your mark – on our new Department mugs!  We are buying 50 mugs for people to use at coffee time instead of plastic cups, and need your ideas for what they should look like.

On one side please devise: a message to encourage the user to wash and return the mug

On the other side: a relevant witty/fabulous design

Winners will be those who produce the best messages/designs for each side, in the opinion of the Green Impact Team judges.  Each winner will receive a mug featuring their own design, some other green goodies, and a lovely warm glow.

Please email your entry to: green-impact-team@esc.cam.ac.uk by Monday 5 June, or put it in the box in the reception area.

 Good luck!

HOW TO FORMAT YOUR DESIGN

Messages/designs should fit within a space of 80mm wide x 75mm high.  Photos should be at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.  No copyright infringements please.  It is best to avoid big boxes of solid colour with the lettering in white - coloured lettering on a white back ground works much better for this process.  Hand-crafted is fine.  If you draw a design on an A4 piece of paper, avoid lines that are too thin (eg a biro line), as these will not reproduce well on the mug.  Also beware of using hatching, which tends to 'blur' and not look good.

The department is working towards a Green Impact Bronze award as part of the University's environmental accreditation scheme, which encourages departments across the University to reduce their environmental impacts. The Bronze award requires us to address:

  1. Embedding & Communication
  2. Energy
  3. Procurement
  4. Travel
  5. Waste & Recycling
  6. Water

So far we have tackled the issue of recycling more of our waste (with separate bins for food, as well as the recycling and glass and landfill bins).

We have formed a green impact team who meet at least once a term. We can be reached by email at .
