Part II - Greece

In December of the third year Part II students spend a week in Greece, mainly looking at the effects of active lithospheric extension. Normal fault systems bounding tilted blocks of crust are examined, and spectacular contrasts between zones of uplift and basinal areas are studied. The field trip also visits old slabs of ocean crust, thrust up onto the continent during mountain building events.
