RAS Gold Medal for Professor Robert White

Professor Bob White.

The medal recognises Bob's "fundamental, transformative contributions" in five different areas of Earth science: mid-ocean ridges, mantle plumes and flood basalts, continental rifting, convergent margins, and dyke injection, seismicity and volcanism.

Bob's current research in the Department focusses on rifting and volcanism in Iceland, including the Cambridge Volcano Seismology group's work on the 2014-15 Bárðarbunga fissure eruption.
