Research Excellence Framework (REF) and Symplectic Elements

Symplectic Elements is a publications management system chosen by the University's REF Administrative team to gather publication data on Departments and their authors.

Code of Practice

The University is required to develop a Code of Practice and this governs all decisions relating to the REF2021. This describes the fair and transparent processes for the identification of staff with significant responsibility for research; the determination of who is an independent researcher; and the selection of outputs.

The University Code of Practice should be read alongside our Unit of Assessment Working Methods. These documents describe the processes that will govern our Unit of Assessment when preparing our submission.

The University's final version of the Code of Practice can be found on the central University REF website under related links.

Our Unit of Assessment is UoA 7 - Earth Systems and Environmental Sciences. Our Working Methods can be found here.
