Ali is an associate professor of climate dynamics at the Department of Earth Sciences. Previously, he held positions at Imperial College London, University of Oxford, Scripps Institution of Oceanography, and MIT. He received his PhD in Atmospheric and Oceanic Physics from the University of Toronto in 2013. He leads the Modeling Ocean Dynamics & Ecosystems Lab (MODEL), where his team studies the physical and biological processes in the ocean that lie at the heart of the ocean's role in regulating the climate system on a wide range of timescales.
